Product Summary
TSUMURA 109 Shosaikotokakikyosekko is a Japanese Kampo medicine based on TSUMURA 009 Shosaikoto, with the addition of Platycodi Radix (Kikyo) to help remove pus and phlegm, and Gypsum (Sekko) to reduce fever and inflammation.
It is often used for tonsillitis that is prolonged or frequently recurring, and is expected to be effective for severe sore throat and strong inflammation.
Efficacy / effectiveness
It relieves inflammation and pain in the throat and improves the predisposition to do so.
Dosing / Administration
- In general, for adults, take 7.5 g a day orally in 2 or 3 divided doses with cold or lukewarm water before or between meals. The dosage may be adjusted according to your age, body weight and symptoms. Strictly follow your instructions.
- If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if the next dose is within two hours, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. You should not take two doses at one time.
- If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
- Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions / Side Effects
- If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines or foods.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
The most commonly reported adverse reactions include rash, hives, loss of appetite, gastric discomfort, loose stool and diarrhea. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
In rare cases, the following symptoms may occur and could be early signs of the side effects shown in [ ].
If you notice any of these symptoms, stop using this product immediately and consult a doctor.
- Dry cough, shortness of breath, fever, or difficulty breathing [interstitial pneumonia]
- Decreased urine output, swelling of the face or limbs, heavy eyelids, stiff hands [pseudoaldosteronism]
- General fatigue, weakness in the hands and feet, muscle cramps, numbness in the hands and feet [myopathy]
- Tiredness, yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes [liver dysfunction]
