Product Summary
Yokukansan is a Kampo(Japanese traditional herbal) medicine that reduces nervous tension, relieves muscle stiffness and tension, and improves the state of mind and body. Specific symptoms include neuropsychiatric symptoms such as irritability and insomnia, tremors in the hands and feet, convulsions, sleeplessness in children, and convulsions. For example, neurosis, insomnia, and even dementia, schizophrenia, manic depression, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease.
Efficacy / effectiveness
Yokukansan has been prescribed to those patients with delicate constitution and neurosis.
It is usually used to treat neurosis, insomnia, child night cry and peevishness in children.
Dosing / Administration
- In general, for adults, take 7.5 g a day orally in 2 or 3 divided doses with cold or lukewarm water before or between meals. The dosage may be adjusted according to your age, body weight and symptoms. Strictly follow your instructions.
- If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if the next dose is within two hours, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. You should not take two doses at one time.
- If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
- Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions / Side Effects
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
- If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Major side effects include rash, redness, itching, loss of appetite, stomach discomfort, nausea, diarrhea, drowsiness and fatigue. If you notice any of these symptoms, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
In rare cases, the following symptoms may occur, which may be the initial symptoms of the side effects shown in [].
In such cases, discontinue use and seek medical attention immediately.
- Fever, cough, shortness of breath, dyspnea [interstitial pneumonia]
- Decreased urine output, swollen face and limbs, heavy eyelids, stiff hands [pseudo aldosteronism]
- My mind, shortness of breath, languor, dizziness [heart failure]
- My body is sore, I can’t put strength on my arms, I feel my legs getting pinched, I feel my legs getting sore, myalgia [myopathy, rhabdomyolysis]
- Body becomes dull, skin and whites become yellow [hepatic dysfunction]
