Product Summary

Pirenoxine suppresses protein denaturation that clouds the lens and slows the progression of cataracts.
It is used in cases of early cataracts where vision is still preserved.

**The name has been changed from “Kary Uni” to “Pirenoxine” from November 2020.
**Pirenoxine ophthalmic suspension is a generic version of CATALIN-K and is an eye drop that does not require dissolution.

Efficacy / effectiveness

Pirenoxine ophthalmic suspension competitively inhibits the binding of quinone bodies to water-soluble proteins in the lens, preventing denaturation of lens proteins and suppressing the clouding of the lens.

It is usually used to inhibit the progression of early senile cataracts.

Dosing / Administration

  • Shake well before use, then instill 1 to 2 drops at a time, 3 to 5 times a day. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully.
  • First, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water. Shake the eye drop bottle well, remove the cap, gently pull down your lower eyelid, and apply the drops. Be careful not to let the tip of the bottle touch your eyelids, eyelashes, or eyes. After applying the drops, do not blink, but keep your eyelids closed for a while (1 to 5 minutes). Gently wipe off any excess liquid with clean gauze or tissue. If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.
  • If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and then wait 5 to 10 minutes before reinserting the lenses.
  • If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, do not apply it, but apply it at the next regular time. Do not apply two doses at the same time.
  • If you accidentally apply more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop applying this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
