Product Summary
It is a second-generation antihistamine (histamine H1 antagonist) that is broadly classified as an anti-allergy drug. Its characteristics include high selectivity for histamine receptors and reduced unwanted effects such as anticholinergic effects. This reduces side effects such as dry mouth and urinary problems that are common with first-generation drugs.
Histamine, a substance in the body, is involved in the onset of allergies. This medicine blocks histamine receptors and suppresses its action, relieving allergic symptoms. It is effective for allergic rhinitis caused by hay fever, hives, itchy skin, bronchial asthma, etc.
Efficacy / effectiveness
When an allergic reaction begins due to stimulation by an antigen, chemical messengers including histamine are released from immune system cells (mast cells). Histamine then binds to a certain type of nerve receptor (H1 receptor), stimulating it and inducing various allergic symptoms. The main action of this drug is to block histamine receptors. In addition, it also has an additional effect of suppressing the release of chemical messengers related to allergies, such as leukotriene.
It is usually used to treat bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, eczema/dermatitis, hives, and cutaneous pruritus.
It is not a medicine that will quickly improve existing asthma attacks or symptoms.
