LOXOPROFEN Sodium Tablets 60 mg “SAWAI” reduce inflammation, relieving swelling, redness, and pain, and also have antipyretic effects.
This drug belongs to the class of nonsteroidal anti‑inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and is widely used for various types of pain. Loxoprofen, in particular, is commonly used due to its favorable efficacy and safety profile. It is also used for colds accompanied by fever and sore throat.
Efficacy / effectiveness
A nonsteroidal anti‑inflammatory analgesic that exerts antipyretic, anti‑inflammatory, and analgesic effects by inhibiting prostaglandin production involved in inflammation.
It is commonly used for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lumbago, periarthritis of the shoulder, cervicobrachial syndrome, toothache, postoperative and post‑traumatic pain and inflammation, pain after tooth extraction, and for fever reduction and pain relief associated with acute upper respiratory infections.
Dosing / Administration
For pain and inflammation (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, low back pain, shoulder periarthritis, cervicobrachial syndrome), toothache, postoperative/post‑traumatic pain (including after tooth extraction)
- Usual adult dose: 1 tablet (loxoprofen sodium 60 mg) three times daily.
- For as‑needed use: 1–2 tablets (60–120 mg) per dose.
For fever and pain from acute upper respiratory infections
- Usual adult dose: 1 tablet (loxoprofen sodium 60 mg) as needed. Generally up to twice daily, maximum 3 tablets (180 mg) per day.
Notes
- Dosage may be adjusted by age and symptoms.
- Avoid taking on an empty stomach. Follow the prescribed instructions.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless the next dose is near; then skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at once.
- If you take too much, consult a physician or pharmacist.
- Do not stop taking the medicine without your doctor’s instruction.

Precautions / Side Effects
- History of allergic reactions (e.g., itching, rash) to any drugs or foods.
- Peptic ulcer, blood disorders, hepatic impairment, renal impairment, heart failure, or a history of aspirin‑induced asthma.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Concurrent use of other medications or products (including OTC drugs and foods) — these may increase or decrease this drug’s effects; inform your healthcare provider.
Main side effects reported include rash, itching, fever, urticaria, abdominal pain, stomach discomfort, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, stomatitis, abdominal bloating, dry mouth, vomiting, peptic ulcer (epigastric pain or tenderness), small/large bowel ulcers (bloody stools), drowsiness, edema, and facial flushing. If you notice any of these symptoms, consult your physician or pharmacist.
Rarely, the following may occur and could be early signs of the serious adverse reactions shown in brackets. If you experience any of these, stop use and seek immediate medical attention:
- Low blood pressure, urticaria, laryngeal edema [shock, anaphylaxis]
- Fever, anemia symptoms, bleeding tendency [agranulocytosis, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia]
- Fever; widespread red swollen skin or blisters; conjunctival redness [Stevens–Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, erythema multiforme, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis]
- Decreased urine output, edema, fever [acute renal injury, nephrotic syndrome, interstitial nephritis]
- Shortness of breath, generalized edema [congestive heart failure]
- Fever, cough, shortness of breath [interstitial pneumonia]
- Epigastric pain or tenderness, vomiting blood, melena [peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding]
- Epigastric pain, abdominal pain [gastrointestinal perforation]
- Nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain, abdominal bloating [intestinal stenosis/obstruction]
- General fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice [fulminant hepatitis, hepatic dysfunction, jaundice]
- Paroxysmal shortness of breath, wheezing [asthma attack]
- Fever, headache, nausea/vomiting [aseptic meningitis]
- Muscle pain, weakness, dark brown urine [rhabdomyolysis]
